It’s always fun, safe, and yes affordable when you share your trips with your friends, your lover, your family, or your colleagues. Obviously, traveling in a group or on a tour is more saving, fun and there are some huge cons about solo travel.

But personally, I still think that the pros are more outweigh, and here are the reasons why the pros outweigh the cons also the reasons why everyone should do solo travel at least once:

The taste of real freedom

Apparently, there is nothing wrong when you travel in a group, it actually brings you more fun and joy. But everything has its own price and the price you have to pay when traveling with your gang is you have to depend on them.

By dependence, I mean you do not have a right to decide everything on the trip all by yourself, and what worse? Your travel partner may suddenly cancel the trip or postpone and you can do nothing about it. It doesn’t happen all the time but the trip indeed depends on the members within.

Meanwhile, if you do solo travel, things may be different, you can do whatever you want wherever and whenever you want. Nothing and no one can control you and affect your decisions.

You can now decide which places you wanna visit, which hostels, homestay, Couchsurfing or Airbnb you wanna book, which food you wanna try, you even can change the plan at the last minute and it is all okay because you are the only person who manages your trip. How wonderful it is! And it, exactly, is how the freedom should taste!

The opportunity to know and love yourself better

Don’t take me wrong, you don’t need solo travel to love yourself, you should always love yourself but solo travel can be a great opportunity for you to know and love yourself better.

Believe it or not, you will always learn to know who you truly are better when you are all alone, when you talk to yourself  – your greatest friend because nobody could know you better than yourself.

You will be surprised at self-discovery, you will come to realize there are so many things you can do but you never have a chance to try, you will learn what your weakness and your strength are.

I never thought I would meet a stranger and become friends but then we are great friends now. I never thought I can go into a dangerous place and can survive but then I did. I never imagined what I would be if I lost all my belongings in a never-been-before-country but then I managed it and can get home safe.

Solo travel definitely gave me private time to listen to myself and I am grateful for that.

The chance of making connections and new friends

It’s always easier to meet and make friends with new people when you travel all by yourself. I do not say that there is no chance to meet new people while you do it with others but I found it’s much easier to have a conversation or sit down at a bar/a train with the people I met along the way.

I once traveled with my beloved ones too, sometimes they don’t want to let strangers join the group because they think that the group we are having is fine with the members within and they are absolutely right. The point of traveling with your family and friends is to enjoy the moments together.

But when you are travel alone you can make yourself memories, you can decide who you want to spend time with. And you don’t need to care about others’ opinions cause you now doing it solo. So it is all your choice!

Don’t ever think that solo travel is so lonely, you will meet people along the way, and they will give you the best memories, they will make your trip becomes more memorable and unforgettable. Some people will trick you but still, some people will treat you?

The independence & empowerment

Solo travel can be dealing with loneliness or cultivating independence. As a saying goes: “You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.” Once you choose solo travel, don’t be sad because you have no partner to lean on.

In fact, you should enjoy your “me time”, you should be happy because you now can step on your own feet, you can learn to be independent, learn to empower the strength inside you.

You may not see the result while being on the trip, but you surely will feel that refreshment once you return. You will feel like a new person with lots of lessons learned through the journey you took, you will feel like you are…rich not by money, but by the memories, by the people you made friends with and by the knowledge you acquired.

The pleasantness of unplanned and random moments

Could be a mistake if I do not mention how pleasant you would feel with the unplanned situations and random moments on your solo trip.

As you travel alone, you can have a flexible schedule, you can change everything at the very last minute and no one will complain about it. You never know what lead you and where it will lead.

I took some solo trips and everything was not like what I planned but I was so happy and excited at that time. They say unplanned trips are always the best because planned trips never happen. Indeed, I found those unscheduled journeys were so amazing because it was full of surprises?
