You’re the apple of my eyes is one of the movies left me speechless. It’s a kind of movies you find yourself in there in any level. Would be a liar if I didn’t see myself in there but to be honest I do not have the same stories. The movie is wonderful which can bring many emotions and remind us about the most beautiful years of our life – Youth.
Simple but beautiful, You’re the apple of my eyes is a story of high school closed friends’ amazing years together, growing up and learning lessons in life. And in that group, there is a girl that all guys had crush on. Usually Taiwan movies, in my opinion, are about unreal cheesy love stories but this is different because it’s real (it’s actually based on the bio of the director aka the scripter of the film) and that’s why it left us empty, because it’s all of us.
The thing I like the most about this film is how well it reflects us, it’s like a train which we took a journey back to those years. You can barely find a movie that brings your memories up but this one can. And it’s not only about the puppy love story of Ko Ching-teng and Shen Chia-yi that got me so emotional but it’s also about the lessons from the film about the fact that we all had to grow up, and of course, grow apart. Our paths might cross at that year but also at that coming-age we must make our own decision, and by doing this, our paths become apart. Kinda sad to realise that fact but it’s true.
However, only the story itself cannot make the movie set surprising box office records in Taiwan and HongKong. It’s also about the acting. Obviously, the casts in this movie are not really all “A ” stars but their acting is great and somehow they are fit with the real-life characters which partly makes You’re the apple of my eyes become a watcher-friendly movie. Also the chemistry between two main cast is high. They are cute and adorable together and that, for sure, is the reason makes me kinda sad about how the ending goes. Bittersweet but anyhow beautiful.
Another thing I like about this movie is its OST. Those Years song by Hu Xia is definitely makes the movie become more unforgettable. The lyrics is simply beautiful and meaningful, the melody is catchy and the singer voice is soft and great. I actually got earworm for that song after watching the film.
Indeed, You’re the apple of my eyes is a worth-watching movie. And no matter how old you are the movie will get you right away 🙂
